To enhance the security of our neighborhoods, retention of our well-trained fire and police personnel will be a priority. Violent crime (harm to individuals) will be emphasized rather than non-violent crime. I will work to invigorate our neighborhood watch programs, and will seek to re-activate the reserve officer corps. I will also work to respect the 2nd amendment of our constitution, and see that those principles are applied in the official policies of our city. I believe that the private ownership of firearms is part of the solution to America's crime epidemic, not part of the problem.
The concept of an Urban Homestead Zone would play a role role in revitalizing some district 3 neighborhoods. This is a concept were local neighborhoods have a range of options in controlling violent crime. Rather than use a more traditional approach emphasizing large-scale projects like sports stadiums, citywide administered community programs, more visible marketing, or simply transferring more resources to existing city governments, the Urban Homestead Zone focuses directly on the needs, aspirations and expectations of citizens and residents (both existing and future).
